We had been watching the Dressage to Music on Sunday morning and after the prize
giving some more music started up and the curtains opened across the tunnel to
reveal... the most adorable little chestnut shetland, on long reins, with a tiny
little white quilted saddle cloth under his roller. He was clipped out, plaited up
and had on tiny little white bandages :wub: and his handler had on full dressage
kit including a half topper and very shiny long boots.They came into the centre of
the arena and the handler saluted. She then did a full test to music which took my
breath away and had the tears rolling down my cheeks. Half pass to the left, half
pass to the right. Passage (with really good elevation and rythm) and then a proper
piaffe before going into collected trot. Extended trot (to DIE for!) across the
diagonal, more passage and piaffe before collected canter work and then the most
graceful canter piouettes on both reins! This little guy honestly worked like a big
warmblood and his paces were strong and correct - I was totally overcome and at the
end when his handler saluted and took a bow, he bowed too (although she did have to
catch his fetlock and give his little leg a bit of a tug back to get him into the
proper position :rolleyes: :wub:) I have never seen anything so cute and yet very
impressive at the same time. He also did some Spanish walk and stood up on his back
legs which was just a little bit 'circusy' but everything else was just what the 'big
boys' had been doing and as lovely to watch. It was funny watching the expressions on
some of the DQ's faces :lol: I could have brought him home in my suitcase! But
seriously it shows what can be done with patience and training, it doesn't matter what
breed or size they are."
